okWaterDown

okWaterDown is a plugin that makes Wordpress administration accessible to people who are not technically savvy, not in a blogger/webmaster mindset. It leaves a bare-bones Admin UI which simplifies the overall experience. I have a feeling this may be a helpful plugin regardless of other Ontekusuto capabilities, by making the Wordpress learning curve shorter and easier.

Step 1: Clearing Main Navigation Menu

  • Remove Links
  • Remove Media (unless media evolves into something better aligned with the Ontekusuto outlook for Wordpress)
  • Remove Appearance
  • Remove Plugins
  • Remove Users
  • Remove Tools
  • Remove Settings

Step2: Clear Dashboard

  • Remove the “Screen Options”
  • Remove all the current Modules except for:
  • Leave the “Right Now” Module
  • Leave the “Comments” Module

Step3: Clear Post Editor

  • Remove Everything except
  • Bold/Italic/Underline Buttons
  • Bullet/Numbering Buttons
  • Alignment Buttons
  • Link Buttons
  • Font Color

Step4: Enhance Editor

  • AutoPaste – automatically capture paste-commands and do the best possible job,  if unsure, remove all formatting and paste as text.
  • Add “Allow Comments” to “Publish” module.
  • Add Automated (with no UI footprint) Tagging

Step5: Clear Post Publishing Tools

  • Remove Custom Fields Module
  • Remove Discussion Module
  • Remove “Page Author” Module
  • Remove “Tags” Module

Step6: Simplify Post Media Insertion (clear/replace?)

  • Remove All Media Button
  • Leave one “upload media” Button
  • Remove “From URL” option
  • Remove inputs: title, description, link, alignment, size.
  • Leave “Caption” field as optional (defaults to file name)

Plugin Settings:

  • Add to the “Dashboard” sub-menu a settings page with basic settings from core Wordpress (TBD)
  • Add option to disable the plugin (since the plugins menu has been removed) and resume regular Wordpress mode.
  • Add option to set the maximum permission to which the plugin is applied (default: Administrator)
